Hungary - Tokaj Wines in Israel

A volcanic, river-shaped landscape famous for Furmint, dry precision, and some of the world's great sweet wines.

Tokaj-Hegyalja is a historic wine landscape in northeastern Hungary, shaped by volcanic hills, loess, rivers, and autumn mist. Those conditions made the region famous for noble rot and the legendary sweet wines of Tokaji Aszu.

Furmint is the key grape. It keeps acidity even at high ripeness, so it works for dry, mineral wines as well as late-harvest, Szamorodni, and Aszu styles. Harslevelu and Sarga Muskotaly often add perfume, softness, or floral lift.

Modern Tokaj is not only sweet. Dry Furmint can be tense, smoky, and textural, with apple, pear, quince, citrus peel, herbs, and volcanic salt. The sweet wines add apricot, honey, tea, saffron, and orange peel while remaining bright rather than heavy.
