Barone Villagrande

Barone di Villagrande is one of the oldest agricultural families in Etna, awarded the noble Barone title in 1727 by the King of Naples for reclaiming and cultivating the rugged volcanic terrain around Villagrande commune – and is both the name of the noble title, commune and the Contrada. Nicolosi family has cultivated Contrada Villagrande Monopole for over three centuries. In 1869 Paolo Nicolosi built a modern cellar and separated white and red vinifications—progressive for the time. Today, the estate remains a benchmark for Etna Bianco Superiore, drawing on terraces at ~700 m that look toward the Ionian Sea. Geology & craft: volcanic sands and decomposed lava. Style: taut, elegant Carricante—citrus oils, white flowers and stone — built to unfurl with air and time. Additional vineyard is Salina - one of the small Aeolian Islands, located just north of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It's a volcanic island, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it boasts a unique and expressive terroir rich in minerals like pumice, basalt, and obsidian ideal for producing characterful wines. This contributes to wines with pronounced minerality, freshness, and complexity. Surrounded by the sea, Salina benefits from constant breezes that moderate temperatures, reduce disease pressure, and preserve acidity in the grapes. The m arine influence also imparts a salty, almost savory edge to many wines.

Barone di Villagrande - одна из старейших сельскохозяйственных семей Этны.
